You are not your circumstances

A difficult circumstance is not made less real by refusing to call it your identity. The rent can be due. The body can be tired. The answer can still be unclear. We do not need to pretend otherwise.

But none of these conditions can contain the whole truth of who you are. They describe what you are meeting; they do not define the one who is meeting it.

When we make a circumstance our identity, possibility begins to shrink. We speak from it, choose from it, and sometimes build a home inside a moment that was always meant to move.

Try changing the sentence. Not ‘I am trapped,’ but ‘I am experiencing a place where I cannot yet see the way.’ Not ‘I am broken,’ but ‘Something in me is asking for care.’ Truth remains, but condemnation loosens.

You are the life capable of meeting this moment, moving through it, and choosing again.
